First Watch restaurants have popped up in a lot of places around San Antonio since it took over The Egg and I, and I've been a little slow to warm up to it, but it has proved to have some solid menu options. The first time I went, I had been expecting to go somewhere else but the other place had closed down. We waited about 45min to get a table, the service was very slow, and the menu item I ordered (the Chickichanga) was overly rich for my tastes. This time, we went to another location with a negligible wait time, and the service and food was much better. Moral of the story: be careful what you order and at what time you go. There's also a communal table at each location that generally has much less of a wait if you get there with a small party, so consider that option if the wait looks long.

When to go: We got there around 1pm on New Years and had zero wait (but waited about 45min on a random Sunday morning around 10am) - get there when it opens or later in the morning
